Sam The Record Man was the legendary Canadian record store chain with an iconic flagship store on Yonge Street in Toronto. Beginning in the late 80’s, Swinghammer was asked to design and illustrate numerous projects including posters, T-shirts, TV ads, a hot rod makeover for the Zamboni at Maple Leaf Gardens, a font for in-store signage and this graphic for the shopping bag used in 140 stores across the country. After 48 years in business, the Yonge St store finally closed in 2007. Sam’s was a special place for music lovers, and the first record store that Kurt ever went to. He was honoured to contribute to their visual identity and wanted to create a memento of his relationship with the store and for folks who cherished the experience of discovering great music at Sam’s.
